Disturbance & Attunement: Welcoming Resurgence

Disturbance is rapid ecological change that stresses beings in particular habitats. Some leave, some die, and some engage in aliveness through resurgence, a process Donna Haraway and Anna Tsing correlate with multispecies worldmaking. With human activity continuing to drive disturbance, we'd do well to tune in to our potential affiliations: what others can we care about? What are their needs? How can we be allies in resurgence? Under the rows of wheat, the rangelands, the big boxes, and the plats for new housing developments, embryos of native prairie plants are sleeping in protective seeds. Where do we want to go with this? In this 2-hour workshop, a reading from the verdant and a discussion of the Template for Welcoming that rounds out the book will usher participants into reflection on their relation to disturbed habitats and an exploration of the arts of attunement.
